The appearance of this unique shark fin antenna is rated a 5+ but most of the key design features of the product need improvement. The screws that attach the base to the case are too short for a secure hold. The screws cannot be tightened enough as they enter the case with less than 2 threads that barely dig into the case's plastic hubs and then break out with very little torque. I used glue to attach the base to the body and screw screws into the holes. Sealing adhesive was necessary anyway, since the tape should not reach to the edge of the hull. Thus, the seam at the point where the floor meets the body, not protected from the ingress of water, since the seam is not covered with tape. The tape was also too thin, so it couldn't even fit the smallest curve in the roof. I replaced the tape with thicker, stronger 3M brand tape. The antenna wiring design concept was good but lacked proper functionality as manufacturers tried to create an efficient dipole antenna. The coiled wire did not serve its intended purpose as the second leg of the dipole design, mating with the approximately 32-inch copper antenna leg attached to the inside of the shark fin's body. The coil idea was right, but the implementation was wrong. My radio reception was terrible when I tested it before installing it. I replaced the coil with an insulated copper core about 32 inches in diameter from TV coaxial cable. Now my radio reception is excellent and even slightly better than the original OEM short single ended antenna that came with my soul. Now I understand that there is less reception loss when driving under a certain overpass, which used to be quite noticeable because it blocks clear reception. I appreciated the larger size of this shark fin because it fit the base of my 2013 Kia Soul+ antenna fairly snugly and also had enough room to add the extra length of copper wire I had installed. I also painted it to match my Kia. I like the look of this antenna more than any other I've seen. This turned out to be a design setup, but I'm very happy with the results. For added functionality and aesthetics, I added a reflector cut from a piece of DOT reflective tape.
