The sensitivity of this item can be adjusted by bending the curved vertical bars. Mine was so close that the stream regularly jumped the gap every now and then, so I backed off a bit. I found that sometimes large beetles were attracted to them and killed in between. Their bodies then got stuck there, causing continuous short circuits that created loud pops that could be heard 75 meters away. I haven't had it long enough to judge its performance in a storm, but it should work as advertised since the physics behind it are pretty simple. There doesn't seem to be anything that can wear out, and at least it's pretty fun to play around with.
