I have three children, two of whom are of school age. I bought this electric sharpener because I was tired of sharpening her pencils by hand. With a manual sharpener, leads break easily due to uneven torque around the center of the pencil. This sharpener works well, and because it applies equal force around the pencil, the tips rarely break (even those Five&Below Halloween pencils!). After 18 months of use, the sharpener stopped working. It makes a buzzing sound (indicating the engine is still running) but the pencil is not sharpened. I opened it up and found that the gear motor was no longer making contact with the sharpener. After googling for a few minutes I found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvblgS38DkQ I then followed the video and secured the motor with two washers. What happens is that there is a piece of plastic that is supposed to make contact between the motor and the sharpener, and that piece of plastic is glued to the motor. (I could see green glue). Over time, the heat would loosen the glue and the piece would shift. Anyway it works like new now. Very happy! (But one star deducted for misuse of glue.)
