I don't know if I need to put tape or something around the metal part of the handle to prevent leakage but I'm pretty sure I don't need to. shouldn't have leaked that much out of the handle itself. The metal "pot" at the end doesn't hold the wax securely, so it not only flows out of the pointed hole, but also out of the pin. I think there is definitely a learning curve, but otherwise these are probably just low quality tools and I would take the time to find better ones and spend a few bucks more to avoid wasting all your wax.
