This strap grounds the vehicle's frame so you don't get electrocuted if you hit the ground. Works every time. You can still get electrocuted from sitting in a car for a while, especially as a passenger, and wearing a heavy coat or windbreaker and static electricity. Touching metal on a grounded machine will electrocute you, but hopefully you're touching something often enough to prevent a significant build-up. With this harness, you and the MASCHINE don't build up a common charge, so you won't get hit as hard if you get out and hit the ground. The bad reviews on this product are the result of people confusing the above facts.
