Review on Audio-Technica ATH-M30x Professional Studio Monitor Headphones, Black: Superior Sound and Comfort by Asahi Sato ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Nice price, good quality.

If you used to listen to music in headphones with an accentuated bass (budget sony, pioneer) or high treble (akg) - then most likely you will not like the sound of Audio-Technica. Looking at the frequency response, you can see that the entire low-frequency range is below -3dB, at 250Hz the hole is up to -10dB. The curve only flattens out at 400Hz and starts to rise to +7dB at 4kHz, dip again at 5kHz again to -10dB. A sharp jump and at the peak of 7kHz we have an amplitude of +10dB. The small frequency range of the microphone does not allow me to describe the curve above 10kHz. But subjectively by ear, somewhere around +6dB or higher. The manufacturer positions the model as a studio model. But this is debatable. On the one hand, good detailing of mid-high and upper-high frequencies due to dynamic rarefaction at 5kHz and emphasis on 7kHz. On the other hand, the almost complete absence of lower mids and mids. A rather strange circumstance, given the promises of the manufacturer - the detail of the middle range. I'm still young and high frequencies cut the ear a lot, so the intelligibility in the middle and low frequencies, for me personally, worsens even more. I guess older people don't have this problem. In sum, given all of the above, I would not recommend these headphones for information. Modern orchestral music (two steps fro hell for example) sounds too pretentious in them because of the small amplitude of low and medium frequencies. But the classical one (not oversaturated with percussion), on the contrary, sounds lively and pleasant. The same can be said about rock and jazz music - classical is good, modern is worse. For beginners "electronics" and arrangers, headphones can also be recommended if there is no excessive sensitivity in the high range. The main rule for choosing headphones is the pleasant sound of the music you are working with, so as not to keep corrections in mind when mixing. Nothing universal, alas.

Pros
  • Convenience, foldable design, sound clarity and detail
Cons
  • 250Hz, 5kHz and <7kHz; overpriced.

Some pros: Gorgeous headphones! Excellent panorama, velvety basses and highs, mids do not merge into mush. Some cons: Apparently, the speaker is so big inside that you can hear what is playing in them, even when they are put on. But this case is corrected by lowering the volume. So it's not critical.

I use it at home when playing tanks and on the street in conjunction with the Colorfly player. I am very glad that I chose this particular model in the store.

Excellent soundproofing, but after a few hours, the ears start to hurt.

Comfortable, long-term wearing does not put pressure on the ears.

Everything is fine, but why do you exist for a 3-meter wire

I listened to an external sound card from creative, juicy and crystal sound.

I did not find analogues for this price, the price / quality is justified

My favorite home "friend", whom I would not agree to exchange for anything.

I did not expect good sound from headphones for five pieces until my friend showed them to me. As monitors are great.
