Review on Windshield Dashboard TomTom EasyPort Pattern by Rip Twin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Too bad I didn't find this mount sooner!

This replacement bracket is EXCELLENT. The only thing I never liked about the TomTom XXL 540 was the bracket that came with it. When using the GPS in its original mount, I always tapped my thumb and supported the back of the unit with my fingers to keep it from falling and sliding into a bad viewing angle. Attaching the GPS to the original mount was also cumbersome. It took quite a bit of effort, and when the GPS was on I still had to double check it was secure before letting go. I found out about this after it fell off the mount a couple of times because it just wouldn't snap into place. When the original mount wore out, I got a third-party replacement that was basically an inferior copy of the original. This mount was awful - it shook like crazy when I drove, the suction cup couldn't take the heat on sunny days if left on the windshield, and after a few months it was completely useless. When this happened I saw this Arkon mount on Revane and decided to give it a try. It was incredibly easy to mount on the windshield and feels solid unlike the original TomTom mount. The GPS snaps into place very easily and securely, and when I press the GPS screen, the mount at the back offers enough support that I don't feel like I'm messing anything up. No more typing with your thumb! This mount is solid and overall I would say it is what the original mount was originally intended to be. I wish I had found this a year ago, but although the GPS itself is no longer supported by TomTom, this mount makes me feel like I'm using an upgraded device. I've just started using it, but I'll definitely come back and edit this review if it doesn't hold up. Based on my previous experience with it, I can only recommend it. (I'm not sure if there will be any further map updates for the XXL 540 as TomTom is increasingly emailing that it is no longer supported. However, map updates were released in August 2019 so the device should be of use to one while.)
