Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Robinair VacuMaster 15150 Economy Vacuum Pump - 2-Stage, 1.5 CFM by Marcus Hardin

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very good quality fogger and vacuum pump combination

My previous vacuum pump was unnamed on ebay, said to be much more powerful than this one and cost a little less. However, Robinair has no problem matching or surpassing the performance of others, which is great to see. It's nice to see such good build quality compared to the usual junk on Ebay - for example the exhaust pipe is actually stainless steel rather than cheap flimsy plastic and is a lot nicer to work with. The general pump noise is significantly quieter, which makes it a lot better to judge the flow rate through the pump by listening for bubble noise, and the supplied oil is also fairly clean and doesn't have that suspicious fishy, amine-like smell that I have with the old pump had. Due to the total lack of an oil mist separator in the exhaust, I'm only giving it four stars instead of five. I assumed this was the whole point of the exhaust fitting to prevent constant oil loss through misting, but it turns out that this pump only has a check valve and the exhaust never goes through a filter. The manual and marketing materials specifically state that it has an oil mist catcher and doesn't emit a mist, but I don't know what to tell you - It's not just that I got a bad unit with a missing filter; I just don't see a place for one here at all. I am upset about this as the main reason I threw away the old pump was that its oil mist separator fell apart and the mist came out. I always have to throw the Robinair into a fume hood when I want to use it so my workspace doesn't fill up with oil mist. It also means the pump loses oil a lot quicker than it should, so I have to top up a lot more often and I don't like that either. - high quality oil mist eliminators, and I think that's what I need to investigate. This appears to add over 50% to the overall cost of the pump which is very disappointing. This is particularly disappointing compared to the cheap Ebay pump I had previously which included a flimsy but still working oil mist eliminator that was only about 80% of the Robinair price. I still give this pump 4 stars no less because if you don't mind fogging it really is a very well made and efficient pump. Definitely stay away if you're looking for something to use in your basement or garage at home. To do this, you need a deduction.
