I used to install a camera that attaches to the license plate and was disappointed that it couldn't capture much behind the truck. It was either too far back or just a foot behind the car, which isn't ideal with kids running around throwing things. The 170 degree camera made me nervous because the license plate version looked very lazy. I think 170 degrees works well with the tailgate handle because it's pointing down and not straight so the image doesn't look distorted at all. Most cars have the license plate in the position where Universal License Plates work well, but on trucks the license plate is so low that the OEM look is worth any additional testing. The picture quality is the best of any rear camera I have installed for myself or my family over the years. It has a very sharp image and with my LED rear lights I have no trouble seeing at night, absolutely no grainy image like night vision cameras. Overall I'm very happy and wish I could just walk out of the gate with this version as it would have saved me a ton of time to install (in advance) and then reinstall. I had a strange wiring problem with the second version. I installed it and the customer service was fantastic! I ended up adding some rubber bumpers to the tailgate to keep it secure when driving forward.
