Although we were south facing, the sun dropped below the horizon (and behind the trees) as the days grew shorter. This resulted in a shorter exposure time for the panel and a much shorter "burn time" for the light sources. The lights were high up in the tree line and we couldn't move the panel where needed. The extension provided the necessary length to move the panel to a better location and bring the "burn" time (roughly 6 hours after dark) back to reasonable expectations. It was easy to connect and worked as expected.
