These shorts are fantastic but they run too big for the size chart

These shorts are very comfortable and well made. I would buy them again in a heartbeat, but I would buy one size smaller than the chart. I'm fairly athletic build at 5'5" but have a 30" waist. The table advised me to buy the XL, but it's too big for me. L might be ok. I don't like things that are too tight, but they might slip down if my legs don't wrap around me a bit. If I was the right size I would have 5 stars!
