I use this antenna on my Yaesu FT-270. Definitely better than the OEM rubber dummy. I bought a 28 inch antenna. The tape measure section is 25 inches and the base is 3 inches. This replaces my telescopic 1/2 wave MFJ antenna where I had to use an SMA to BNC adapter. Ever longer HT antennas: they put a lot of stress on the SMA connectors. I recommend examining their application and use for each such antenna. I had to modify the base of this antenna so that I could install and remove it without removing the microphone jack. Cap over my HT. A little work with Dremel to reduce the diameter of the base of the antenna by about 1/16" did the trick. Overall I expect this antenna to be much more reliable than the telescope design. I can't help but have a subjective opinion on performance compared to other longer than OEM rubber dummies simply because of the variables that affect handheld radio performance.I need the range of an anechoic antenna with the right instruments to get any meaningful results anywhere.Everything else is purely anecdotal.
