After having an old set of enameled mugs from the 90’s, you know, the blue ones with the white speckles – those started to wear out. The enamel started chipping and flaking, and underneath was exposed, rusted metal. Knowing I wanted something just as durable, but hopefully longer lived, I figured I’d try stainless steel as an alternative. I had a few criteria I wanted from the start, then coincidentally found additional considerations along the way. First, I wanted the stainless steel, for ease of cleaning, durability, and lack of rusting. Second, I wanted the same 10 ounce size as the mugs I had. Third, I wanted something that would stack easier, and be more compact than the mugs. I started looking throughout Ebay, and quickly found I had many choices. Ruling out anything that didn’t meet my criteria above, I soon found that my options included the possibility of double-walled, insulated drinking cups. That sounded like a big plus as I knew how hot those mugs could get with you filled them with boiling water. Additionally, I’d also use the mugs for drinking spirits, and they never seemed to hold ice for long. Thus, the insulation seemed a plus. I also liked the design, that they stacked well, and that they were designed in a way to stand proud of the cup you’re slipping one into when stacking. I ordered two sets, and awaited their arrival. They arrived quickly, and my first thought was to run them through the dishwasher. Upon putting each into the dishwasher I noticed that every other cup or so had some sort of ding in it – nothing major or deep, just not "perfect”. This didn’t bother me at all, but it might if I was buying them as a gift or for more "presentation” purposes. I also noticed that the lip of the cup has a design where the inside lip is rolled and gradual, whereas the outside lip is a more 90 degree, "sharp” edge. This seemed odd, but when drinking from the cup it isn’t noticeable or problematic. We’ve use the cups on two trips now, and I’d add the following: they work great. They’re super easy to clean, and they’re surprisingly good at keeping your hand from the heat of your drink inside. Additionally, they help keep hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold – just as I had hoped. All in all, I’m very happy with the purchase, find them exactly what I needed, and would easily buy them again. For my purposes, they serve the need completely, but I would admit that they are likely to arrive "cosmetically imperfect.” Hope that helps.
