Purchased for use on a 5 acre lighted lot with few obstacles. They come pre-charged but we charged them overnight. It requires some assembly to remove the belt clip, but it's pretty easy. Comes with a small strap and an earpiece. When it turns on, it verbally "turns on" and then tells you what channel it's on. When you change channels, the voice will turn on to let you know which channel you've selected. Nice touch as with so many channels without it it can be difficult to make sure you are on the right channel. The channel selector knob stays in place, but there's a chance it will loosen over time and accidentally move. moment after. The push-to-talk button is okay, but probably a weak point for continuous use. It's a soft rubber button and over time I see this rubber wearing down. I'd like to see a hard plastic button here for durability. The sound is loud and clear! It's LED backlit, but not very bright. You could probably use it to read small text in the light, or to see where the button goes. It also flashes. Nice addition, but not used often. We've found it turns on accidentally most of the time, which is a potential drain on the battery. For a good value radio I would say this is a 5 star purchase. If you need something for a construction site, you can't go wrong. For 200 euro radios from the big brand M, it's not worth paying more. These units are more durable, but not long enough to make me pay $150 more for them. In fact, the only thing that suits them is an encrypted network, but most job boards probably don't take advantage of the added security and hassle of programming if you need a replacement. Those of us who have dabbled with radios know that durability doesn't really matter because they break (or get lost) just as easily as this cheap one. How they tolerate the wet weather in the long term, I can't say yet. We run into it a lot here in Florida, but as long as you protect it to some degree I think it'll be fine. I like separate chargers so everyone can have one on their desk, but it would be great to have one. also a multi-unit charging station. After my initial purchase of a pack of 4 devices to test, I bought another pack of 2 devices. 4 units is a great price so you can't go wrong. Always get some extra radios. They get lost or lost all the time and you have to swap them out to recharge them. As long as they are available, they will be my assistants when needed.
