This microwave has overheated and shut itself down 3 times in the (almost) 2 months that I have been using it. The first time was within a week of purchasing it - I noticed an odd smell while cooking meatoaf for 24 minutes on cooking power 7. I stopped the cooking cycle, and felt that the outside of the unit was very hot. The time readout and the power light went blank. I checked my breaker, but it had not tripped. I unplugged the unit, then a few minutes later, when I plugged it in, it worked again. The second time was a similar experience during a long baking time. I have 4 inches of space around the microwave, as recommended. Yesterday I was cooking a baked potato - not a long or hot process, but it reset itself again. I am out of the one month return window - is there anything that can be done? I would not expect a brand new appliance to overheat - and most times it works just fine. Did I get a lemon?EDIT: Sharp contacted me within 24 hours of posting the initial review. After sending photos and giving them the information, they promptly sent us a replacement, a slightly different, newer model. It's black, not white, and the keypad is harder to read in low light, but they did the right thing and replaced my malfunctioning unit. The new one, Model SMC1840CS, is even better - it doesn't drive us crazy with a beep every few min. when the food is done - One beep is all we need! Thanks, Sharp customer service!
