All this hassle and an unnecessarily long check could have been avoided if I had opened the box first. And I wasn't trying to kill time while my kids were watching the SpongeBob movie for the thousandth time (Antonio Banderas' Greatest Actor). It is not rubber like the original part. It's cheap vinyl. It doesn't even have enough flexibility to first slip its tip through the vine's cap and seat the flared end. I had to gently heat it with a small flame, quickly bend the flared end, and then use a small, blunt stick to push it into the vine's cap to push it all the way in, hoping it would "seal". I say it that way because despite the fact that it fits right. I don't think it has enough elasticity to actually seal properly or within a reasonable time, even if it does. Especially in very cold weather. I wouldn't have a problem if I didn't have to "git r dun" so I could make a doctor's appointment on my car roof in heavy rain with no antennas/connection open. (2001 E55 AMG). I already destroyed my old one by removing it to install this one. I swapped out an identical antenna cover and cover gasket assembly on my 2000 C280 a few years ago and wrongly assumed that all of those kits (especially at this price point) would be made out of natural rubber, just like the one I got back then. I don't believe in the tightness (because of its stiffness) nor in the durability and am already ordering another one that I have confirmed is indeed made of rubber. I could see it was worth maybe five bucks as a thing that's better than nothing while on the hunt for a quality replacement. If I wasn't in the stalemate I was in. I would send it back once I opened the package and found the poor quality material this is made of. I hate thinking about the damage and huge expense that would come with repairing a failure of such a small but important part. A leaking roof and buried/inaccessible electrical connections are no joke. Or, even worse, the loss of an increasingly rare Mercedes from the days when these antenna covers were used. Because the repair/evaluation costs are reversed depending on the model. and the amount of damage. I'll try to update my review and attach some photos when I get a replacement.
