Inexpensive expansion card

Although this USB card is slightly more expensive than comparable cards, it works well and provides enough power for connected devices. There are 6 external USB ports and one internal. The included SATA power cable ensures that you draw power directly from the power supply and not via the PCI slot. One limitation is that this card has horizontally mounted USB ports. If the ports are installed vertically, then that's not a problem, the connections have enough space because they are aligned up and down. (See image for comparison.) Since the connectors are arranged horizontally, you must ensure that there is enough free space in the map section. In some cases, the card slots are too narrow to accommodate USB ports. My PC case was one of these, so I had to take a Dremel cutout tool and sand them down on each side so they had a wider opening. After that was done, everything fell into place properly. Chances are your PC has fairly wide backplane slots, but you should check before you buy (or buy a card with vertical ports). At the same time, the card has many ports. and enough power to power most devices.
