Easy to install but not suitable for Lenovo desktop

If you have a Lenovo desktop, don't buy it. As mentioned, it has one design flaw: the metal support bars on the tower body prevent you from using the ports. Unfortunately it had to come back. I can't risk damaging my USB devices by scrapping them.

Pros
  • Embedded OS support in Windows 8.1 and 8 and Linux kernel 2.6.31 or later for easy driver installation
Cons
  • No form required

Works perfectly! on computer components

This product was purchased to try and get rid of multiple USB hubs that were cluttering up the space around my computer. I put the card in the computer, turned it on and that was it. The card was automatically recognized by my Windows 10 PC and worked great. I do not regret this purchase. Would definitely recommend to others who need more USB 3.0 ports for their computer.

Pros
  • USB 3 controller backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.x devices
Cons
  • Miscellaneous Miscellaneous

Excellent performance on CentOS 7 NAS with USB 3.0 disks

I built the NAS using an old Lynnfield-era PC with CentOS 7 HD internal. The Highpoint controller works fine, but requires a kernel module that needs to be compiled whenever the kernel is updated. This annoyed me and I wanted a hardware solution that didn't require a kernel module. I chose the StarTech card, although based on my experience with StarTech, it is 3 times more expensive than Chinese cards. They make very good quality stuff. Their engineers design great boards that won't break…

Pros
  • 1 internal and 6 external ports
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

USB may not fit between the support bars on your tower

Works perfectly, plug and play, CD was nice to have - needed it for 1 of 2 Windows 7 towers I've had. It took me a minute to figure out which driver I needed to disable - Windows couldn't find the driver until I installed it using Install from Disk. The biggest problem is that when the card was in the tower, the USB cables were too wide to fit through the tower support bars! I had to bend them a bit to make this work. So, if you have a Lenovo Thinkstation, be prepared to work on it a bit…

Pros
  • PCIe USB 3.0 adapter board
Cons
  • Will fit

That does not fit. on I/O port cards

Well installed but useless as port orientation does not allow connection. Has anyone even bothered to hook this up to a computer and do a little quality control? WTF grrrrrrr.

Pros
  • Standard and low profile
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish

Works as needed on USB port cards

Received this unit today, installed it and have not had any problems connecting to USB ports as described by others in their reviews. When you turn on your PC, the Windows 10 platform will instantly and automatically download the necessary drivers to enable the ports. After making sure everything was working properly, I disabled the USB ports controlled by the motherboard by disabling them in the BIOS. I needed this card because the motherboard USB controller had a component failure that was…

Inexpensive expansion card

Although this USB card is slightly more expensive than comparable cards, it works well and provides enough power for connected devices. There are 6 external USB ports and one internal. The included SATA power cable ensures that you draw power directly from the power supply and not via the PCI slot. One limitation is that this card has horizontally mounted USB ports. If the ports are installed vertically, then that's not a problem, the connections have enough space because they are aligned up…

Pros
  • UASP support
Cons
  • I'll add later

This is my 5th StarTech card I'm buying and they are .

This is my fifth StarTech card that I have bought and they all work great. However, I understand why some reviews mention the difficulty of inserting a USB plug into each port; This is a very tight fit. Try the following: Do not insert the card. Gently insert the card into the motherboard PCI-E slot. Now plug in the plugs and then fix the card with the screw on the housing. If that doesn't work, open the case a little.

Pros
  • Get the scalability you need by adding 7 USB 3.0 ports with SATA power to your computer.
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options.
