I have just installed real hardwood floors on the first floor of my house. I wanted to make sure the rugs and big mats wouldn't damage the new wood. So I went straight to the source and called the flooring manufacturer directly. One of their designers agreed that some carpets and rugs with a rough backing can actually damage a wood floor. He sent me a link to this product on Revain and explained that it was best used under carpets etc. He explained that, firstly, it was soft. Second, it prevents the mats from slipping. Finally, the fact that this particular material has holes or holes allows the wood beneath the rugs to breathe. Since he is a technician from a flooring company and recommends this particular rug, he agreed with me. I cut a large one to fit under the smaller rugs and it worked great.
