I am a field engineer and one of my jobs is to oversee commercial diving operations. Usually we are off the beaten path on a lake or on a boat and there is quite a bit of space on the contractor's boat. I had another tripod chair that I used a couple of times but it wasn't very strong. Decided to give it a try and was not disappointed! It's compact, fairly stable, and doesn't wobble when I sit on it. There are springs inside that hold the legs together and the way it is assembled is that you twist it to pack and unwrap it to install. The legs have male and female ends so they are all connected to withstand the strain. There are no cotter pins, so it's not difficult to disassemble, but it won't fall apart on its own. I weigh about 240 pounds and didn't feel like I was crushing it - it feels solid to sit on. The canvas seat also feels quite heavy, and there's a mesh pocket under the seat to stash goggles or sunglasses. All in all it will be perfect for my purposes and I'm very glad I got it! I'll update after the down season with advice on durability and how it's holding up.
