Frankie, completely useless. Considering I've used them 5 times since I bought them, I'm sorely disappointed in the quality of their construction. I mostly use pliers and a glove. The tongs literally fall apart when used or washed. I wouldn't be surprised if your hands fall out of the plastic connectors if you look too closely! The glove doesn't offer much thermal protection - I was smoking a pot of meat sauce and used this glove on one side and an old Nexgrill glove on the other. I almost fell out of the hole because the hand in these mittens got very hot very quickly. Never again!
