With it, I never set the ISO above the threshold (1600 is already on the border of horror for a camera jpeg), the only thing is that you need to make sure that the shutter speed is no more than 1/30-1/50 s. In general, it can be practically not removed from the carcass at all. As a pure portrait painter, he is not very good in my personal opinion. You can use it, of course, it depends on personal taste preferences and with some reservations - it's still not a portrait focal length. The 30mm DOF itself has much more depth than the 50mm, and perspective distortion will force you to move further away, further increasing the DOF. Plus, in the summer in the sun without a gray filter, you can’t shoot in the open, you need to tighten it up to 2.0-2.8. The result is only a slight blur of the background or a hint of it. I personally like it - you can unobtrusively emphasize the subject (I really don’t like it when the background is blurred into the trash). In the dark, this is also a plus - a large depth of field allows you to accurately convey the middle and background. For close combat and good bokeh, it is better to use longer lenses - 50/85/100/135. But full-length portraits, some half-length ones, shots of the category "I'm in the background ." - this is his element (I have most of these shots). The perspective does not collapse as much as on telephoto lenses - everything looks quite natural, as our eyes see. . If you know all the features, advantages and disadvantages, the lens will become a good tool in your hands and give a lot of nice shots. . PS: I do not see any alternatives to it, except perhaps the Canon 35 2.0 IS USM. The stabilizer is, of course, a very, very significant plus (winning stop 2 at least compared to sigma due to exposure), but the price is at least 1.5 times higher or even more! And the luminosity is a little less all the same. There is also an older brother sigma 35 Art, but here again the price and dimensions. If there was a goal to switch to ff in the near future, of course the scales would swing in the other direction. . TOTAL: In general, if you think to take / not to take - do not think, just buy and enjoy!
