Our printer has been in use for a little over a year and as far as we know has always worked perfectly. We had a power outage last Christmas and when we tried to use the printer it said NO TONER which was odd as we had just replaced some of them. We certainly bought more toner (although we were pretty sure the cartridges we replaced were almost new). A few weeks later we moved the printer (so it was unplugged) and the toner out notification appeared again. The online display and screen showed a lot of toner, but he refused to eject and print. It's happened a few more times (with some power outages due to cold and weather) that after turning the printer off, when it's turned back on it has NO TONER issues and it won't print without new toner installed, even if we have the toner essentially new. SO DISAPPOINTED! Otherwise this is a good printer. . . but the headaches of the last few months for such a good and expensive printer/scanner/copier have not paid off. I tried contacting BROTHER to see if there was anything I could do to manually reset the machine and googled. Problem several times and tried different methods but nothing works and seems impossible to contact anyone because they want you to contact the supplier (our nearest one is an hour away).
