Review on SilverStone Technology SST-FF81 SST-FF81B 80mm Fine Fan Filter with Magnet Cooling - Black by Tom Ball

Simple but effective

It's as simple as you'd expect. Pretty thin piece of plastic with mesh attached. However, it works and it works well. The mesh is of good quality and compared to other filters I've seen and used it lets quite a bit of air through while still removing quite a bit of dust. There's the balance. A fan filter always slows down and restricts airflow, but at the same time it keeps a certain amount of dust in your system. Airflow will always be limited and dust will always get in, but you have to decide what's more important. For me and the arcade machines I build, this has been an effective way to balance airflow and dust collection. If you clean this filter from time to time, it will work as intended, maintaining airflow and limiting dust ingress. what I don't like about it. It does its job well if your case has no or bad filters, but it's quite difficult to remove for a quality cleaning. You have to unscrew the filter every time you want to deep clean it. I think if it were magnetically attached to the metal screws that hold the fan in place it would be a basic five star filter that I could easily recommend, but it's not. For me, my current case has good built-in filters that are easy to remove so I no longer need them. If you have an old case and a lot of dust, then this is still an easy recommendation. You can always just vacuum the filter when it gets clogged and that will usually do the trick. If you need dust protection, the price is reasonable and I would recommend them as a good option.
