In the past I've had no luck buying a short adapter and then plugging the cable into the adapter (if I wiggled the adapter my screen would flicker or turn off) so buy it I instead use a full length cable with each end having the correct connector. That's it, a full-length cable with DVI on one end and a Displayport on the other end. A solid long cable. I plugged it in and it works great. Just for your information. I use two 19 inch square monitors, not widescreen, with a laptop. So one monitor uses VGA to VGA on my laptop and my other monitor uses DVI on the monitor to display a port on the laptop. When my laptop screen is open I now have 3 screens.
