I am SO sorely disappointed with this product! The vertical design seems so smart, but it just makes it very difficult to use. Remember that the thicker your batter, the less likely it is that you will be able to pour it down the spout. I had to try to stuff it in with a knife - then I had to add milk to the batter to make it thinner so I could pour more in. Even when I do this, the batter drips down the outside of the machine (why the included spoon doesn't have a built-in spout I'll never understand). Forget trying to use it to make "real" (yeasty) Belgian waffles. I don't want to keep watering down my awesome tests just to make this vertical design work! Most waffle makers are pretty difficult to clean, but this one has the added fun bonus of having to clean the spout from the top. ugh Don't do that folks! You can get just as good results with thicker dough with a regular old flat iron. I LOVE Cuisinart but this design is a mess.
