Review on πŸ’‘ Precision Adjustable Regulated Power Supply - KORAD KD3005D by Jose Mcdaniel

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good stock for the price

Easy to use compact workbench stock for hobbyists. Actual dimensions are approximately 10.5" deep x 4.4" wide x 6.5" high. The dimensions given in the description are incorrect (possibly out of the box). I bought 2 supplies to use with circuits work that require + and - voltages. The two devices stack well and take up very little space in the corner of my desktop. While the voltage reading is fairly accurate, the current readings can vary slightly for some devices. In a test I set a current limit of 1 amp on both sources and connected them to 3 ohm 5% resistors. The lower unit. Very accurate indeed! However, the *current reading* of the upper unit was not as accurate, indicating that the PSU was putting out 1.062A while the bottom unit was very close to the listed 1.001A. This may not be the case.. Pretty "laboratory" level of performance, but a good e's for most hobbyists applications not good enough. I found a vulnerability in the block protection scheme. Although it is well protected against short circuits and overheating, one must be very careful not to reconnect it to a battery that can supply a large current. While charging and testing a B&D 18V battery, I accidentally swapped a battery and cut the output. It was not reset even when the power was turned off. The protection diode at the output of the power supply shorted out, which really protected the power supply from destruction. After replacing the diode with a 1N5480, the device worked fine, but I might not have had much luck connecting the power supply to a stronger current source, e.g. B. a car battery. FYI, the protection diode is on the front board very close to the output terminals so it takes about 10-15 minutes to disassemble.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
