Quick/Easy Installation - Improved Performance

I've had problems with my 2000 Mercury Optimax 150 where it would run fairly rough or just shut off at < 800 RPM. Rail fuel pressure at idle. I removed the VST and pulled out the high pressure fuel pump. My initial hope was that the air intake (and/or tank) was dirty and that wasn't causing fuel flow, but everything turned out surprisingly clean. I then connected the pump to the battery and it became apparent that the existing pump was failing. Obviously this has nothing to do with checking the pump itself, but thought I'd share in the hope it might help. someone else is having the same problem with their outboard. A quick search turned up HFP-295 here. Delivery was quick and installation was quick. I think everything was assembled and the engine was up and running in less than 30 minutes. Now my engine runs better than it has since I bought the boat.
