The weight of the press is decent. A little more bulk wouldn't hurt though. The grip is chunky, which is good, but the wood finish felt rough. Wiping with steel wool did nothing. The iron was coated but there was some rust. Once cleaned and seasoned, this should last a lifetime. A star was deducted for the way the handle was attached to the base. The screws are driven into the end wood and if they are washed, as unfortunately many do with cast iron, the water will eventually expand the raw end grain and the screws will fail. It's a cheap item and threaded end caps would add to the cost and it's understandable why they aren't there, the end could be sealed with the same finish that was applied to the rest of the handle and that would mitigate this problem.
