God! I've been trying to make good coffee at home for YEARS. Nothing beats the strong aroma of a cup of Starbucks or Peets filter coffee. I've tried MANY single cup coffee makers over the years. Neither of them made a satisfactory cup of coffee. I recently purchased a Hamilton Beach 1 cup coffee maker. Nice design but mediocre coffee. But. Reading reviews from manufacturer Hamilton Beach, someone had a similarly lackluster experience and recommended the Hario. I received it today and made my first cup. Delicious. Using about the same amount of coffee in a Hario mug as in a Kuerig-K (0.5 oz) mug actually makes a very strong cup of coffee, and I love strong coffee. SUPER easy to brew. The preparation was simple: <> boil a cup of water in the microwave <> place the Hario funnel on the coffee cup <> insert the 01 paper filter <> add the ground coffee <> pour enough hot water over the ground coffee with a twisting motion to wet it completely.< >Wait 30 seconds, then continue to add water, but never allow the water level in the paper cone to rise above the ground coffee level. I used the "pour-wait, pour-wait" technique instead of trying to maintain a steady, gentle flow of water in the cup. This gradual absorption of the added water naturally speeds up the pouring out of the water. Adding water about every 15 seconds worked well. As the water flows with a vortex, again make sure that the water level does not rise above the level of the thickness. After the water has boiled, the entire brewing process takes about 2-3 minutes. It's an acceptable ritual for such a great cup of coffee. Highly recommended. Cleaning is also very easy. You don't have to deal with dirty coffee grounds, everything belongs to the filter. (and, even better, VERY "green" trash.) Who knew the Japanese knew how to brew coffee.
