. I was hesitant to install the joint due to the splines being difficult or impossible to install with standard under vehicle tools, but I was surprised. The barb joint is carefully designed. I poured some engine oil into the tip and pushed in the new and old nylon tubing with reasonable force. It's not easy, but doable. The porter's barb is carefully finished. Looks like they tested the spike design, mind you. YES, the mandrel is not standard. It should be rigid so it doesn't come loose, but you should be able to install it without bending the nylon tubing on either end. I clamped the center of the barb with a vice and attached the oiled barb to both ends of the nylon tubing. Thanks mandrel designer.
