Whenever this lens is attached to the Sony ILCE-7RM2 camera, the device stalls for around 45 seconds approximately every 500 frames, which is a highly frustrating occurrence while shooting. The lens has the most recent firmware version, which is v.3, and the camera also has the most recent firmware version, which is v.4.01. I took it to the Tamron service facility, where some friendly employees attempted to assist me and even replaced the motherboard in the lens; nevertheless, this did not resolve the issue, and the camera continued to freeze. I initially suspected that there was a problem with my particular lens, so I rented another Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens. Unfortunately, the problem persisted with that lens as well; the camera would randomly freeze. According to the reviews that I've come across, I'm not the only one who has experienced this issue: It is important to exercise extreme caution when purchasing lenses made by other companies because Sony cameras have a reputation for being inconsistent when working with optics made by other manufacturers. The camera itself is not the source of the problem; I have two more Sony lenses, and not a single one of them has ever caused the camera to freeze up on me. After purchasing a Sony FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS, I completely forgot about these freezes, as if they had been a nightmare. If you are considering purchasing this lens (or any other third-party lens), I strongly suggest that you rent it first and take three thousand pictures using it under a variety of lighting circumstances.
