Easily add an extra entrance!

I purchased this cable when I found out my 2008 Mazda 6 didn't have an AUX input. Press the "Media" button on the radio and voila - you have an Aux input. When your phone is charging you might get a little feedback from the ground loop through your speakers. If things get bad enough, you might need a ground loop isolator. It wasn't that bad on my car, but it might be different on yours. But that's not the cable. Installation is not that bad if you are familiar with car audio installation. Installation on a Mazda 6 required removing the center console (held by clips), removing 3 HVAC controls (2 have screws behind them), removing 2 screws under the center console and removing a screw behind the glove box. (Which requires removing the glove box) I consulted YouTube first to find some installation videos, there were a few showing the process and they were easy enough to follow. Here are the steps I ended up taking. 1) Remove the gear knob from the automatic shifter (manuals may differ?) - just twist to release. He's there with the carving. 2) Remove the center console - start pulling up near the cup holders and you should see a gap, you may need to pry it up a bit. The center console consists of two parts (one around the shift knob and the other around the electronic brake knob). They are connected but fairly easy to separate. I actually had to separate the two pieces to remove the E-Brake handle, which is easy to detach from each other. I also had to move the shifter to N or D to release the shift knob. There are two bulbs that illuminate the shift indicator, you will need to unscrew them, and you will also need to unplug the extra 12v plug on the front of the center console. There is a latch on the connector that you need to press with a flathead screwdriver and it should snap off. 3) You will need to unscrew the two screws located under the HVAC controls. After removing the center console, they should be visible. 4) You will need to remove two screws behind the HVAC controls. Remove the temperature controller and vent - simply grasp the handle and pull outward. I also removed the fan control box - not sure if it's even needed. Unscrew the two screws you just exposed. 5) Remove the glove box - you will need to push on each side of the glove box to make it drop lower (beyond the normal open position). Just pull the entire glove box towards you. , and it should come off the hinges. 6) This will expose a 10mm screw that is bolted to the side of the stereo. You will need a ratchet with an extension to get to this screw. Remove this screw. 7) It's time to break out the stereo! - Needs some tinkering, there are clips holding the stereo in place, I was able to see under the clock/display which gave me enough leverage to release the stereo. Be careful as the plastic around the stereo is easily scratched by metal tools. 8) They removed the stereo! - Look at the back of the stereo, it should be the only place your new cable will fit. This is the white connector on the back of the stereo. Mine was to the left of the stereo (front view). It should connect securely, but there may not be an audible click when the cable is connected. 9) Try it! - Make sure it works, connect your phone/audio device to the 3.5mm jack cable, turn on the music, turn on the stereo - turn the key to ACC mode, press the media button on the front of the stereo and you will be greeted. Your music through your car speakers. 10) Pull the cable. I was able to route the cable down the left side of the stereo and through the right side of the driver's footwell. From there I pulled out the slack and had enough cord to plug in my phone. 11) Collect. Slide the stereo into place, reinstall all screws, bolts and handles. Attach the center console, slide the glove compartment back in, done! Don't forget to reconnect the extra 12V plug and reinstall the bulbs around the gear selector!
