I thought the case was one piece with a magnet on the bottom, but it is made up of 2 parts: the case and its base are connected by magnets. You can use the case itself on a metal surface. I like the fact that the base is detachable and the case fits perfectly in the organizer box where I keep my daily meds and remote controls. It saves space so is very versatile in that regard with a detachable base. It's also nice and deep so your glasses are fully tucked in, unlike my old ones where nearly half my glasses were sticking out at the top leaving the lens exposed and prone to scratches. It's also very plush and soft so your lenses are really protected. The purple color is really pretty and appears to be durable rather than a cheap feel. I haven't had it long enough to know of its longevity. I'll update when I've used it for a while about the general durability hence 4 stars. Overall this is a good product and I would recommend it.
