Dragonwood; naturally barked, mossy, fatter than Manzanita. My slow-warming novelty, African Gray, tugged at the bark and decided she should sit here for a few seconds from now on. Dragonwood is known among flower growers for its twisted shape and bark covered in moss and lichen. This is one of the most commonly used branches to make artificial tree trunks. While the description would be more accurate if the picture showed these aspects, it would be nice to read about the wood the perch is made of. A Manzanita branch of this length is not as large/thick in diameter as Dragonwood, and Manzanita has no bark. This perch is about 1 inch thick and is perfect for my gray parrot. Various people in the parrot community may think it's fit for a cockatoo (I think it is) but too fat for a cockatiel or sunox. Ideally, all caged birds want different thicknesses, textures, and perch shapes, as they need to "spread" their toes in different positions to keep their feet healthy. Imagine wearing high heels or cowboy boots 24/7. By the way, moss/lichen is minimal and very dry. It is integrated into the bark and can be chewed. Will definitely buy more Dragon Forest. Update: Ordered another one for a second birdcage housing a mated gray couple. It is the same length as the first but is two inches in diameter and thick enough for a cockatoo or macaw. Unfortunately, none of my three grays want to sit on it. Scary size in diameter. The customer service on this subject exceeds expectations regarding this issue. The first perch holds up very well, although it gets thinner where the parrot sits and nibbles. This brand and species of wood has proven to be a favorite among the grays [but should be within the appropriate diameter range for the species] and an aesthetically pleasing addition to the environment. I will definitely continue to order this product but this is a gamble as no one knows what diameter will be sent.
