Review on 12V Adapter Cable for Garmin Devices by Michael Shim

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I may have found a fix for a vulnerability in this cable box that everyone seems to be complaining about in early crashes.

This is the third adapter cable I have for my Garmin GPS. The original failed after about 3 years. We moved the device back and forth between my car and my boat. Bought new from Revain. This went on for over a year until my son borrowed the device with the trip hole he needed to use it. When I put it back in my car it didn't work. I knew I needed GPS for a business trip and would need it with a rental car, so I reluctantly ordered a third cable from Revain. I put off my decision to buy another one because it was almost too late when I had to leave the house. The cable arrived quicker than Revain promised and I was happy to receive it before boarding the plane. I used it on my business trip and I think I found a vulnerability in the device. I noticed that the connection between the GPS itself and the cable is very unstable. I suspect that rocking around when mounting and removing the GPS is causing the connector on the GPS itself to fail. So I applied some tape to hold the connector against the GPS. So far this has worked. For Christmas my family gave me a new TOM TOM GPS to replace without realizing that I figured out how this works a long time ago. Now I plan to install it permanently on my boat. There will actually be less abuse on a boat than in a car, so I expect this rule will be around for a while. If anything changes I will update my review.
