I replaced a leaking radiator on my 2010 Impala and thought I should replace the stock thermostat as well. I chose Gates because I've had good luck with their products in the past. I installed the radiator and thermostat, then changed the fluids and started the car, yes no leaks. After 5 minutes, the temperature sensor will light up and the information system will prompt you to turn off the machine. Great, the new radiator is clogged or something. Called people who might know what to look for and were told to check the thermostat first. I drained all the fluid and pulled out the "new" thermostat with a new radiator on the way now. I installed the original with 140k on it and everything works as it should. I don't know how to check if the thermostat works without installing it, so I would suggest avoiding that and buying OEM.
