This is my second Reese Towpower (7060200) Tow and Go Hitch Step. I first had one of the earlier versions that used Phillips countersunk screws to attach the top plate to the clutch stage with countersunk locknuts. I had absolutely no issues with this design, although some reviewers complained about the Phillips screws and the inability to tighten them. Mine never came loose and I didn't even use threadlock like some said you should. I think some people have something to complain about. Personally I found it gave the installation a much cleaner look. As for the weight of the hitch step, I'm over 250 pounds and have had no problems with the step. I've seen photos of a broken footpeg in the reviews and judging by its appearance, one of the bolts was so tight that it just snapped at the attachment point. Guys, it's aluminum. not steel, so be careful not to overtighten the screws or you'll get in trouble. I have the same problem as many men, which is that I often overtighten things and break them. This 2nd stage clutch now uses hex head screws which allows one person to tighten it much easier. Even though they send nylock nuts which keep them from loosening due to car vibration, road etc. I used Loctite Blue 242 Threadlocker on mine. But the only reason I used it was because it was already on the bench next to me when I assembled the Hitch Step. So why did I buy the second clutch stage? Well, my crotch is broken. Wait, but the problem was not caused by the design of the Reese Towpower Tow and Go Hitch Step or an error. Let me be clear, I just got home and decided to park back in the yard for some reason. It was something I did a lot and to be honest I can do it blindfolded. mmm, except for that day it seems. I had two good pear trees on this side of the yard. had emphasis on. Somehow, despite knowing it was there and using my side mirror when reversing, I was able to center one of the twin trees almost perfectly. I knew immediately what I had done and went out to inspect the damage to the truck I had just received, expecting to need a tailgate and bumper. I was amazed to see that the only thing damaged was the clutch stage. The right side of the step struck a pear tree, knocking the tree down almost entirely. The step was broken at the bottom and bent up and forward, the metal plate at the top was also bent and cracked but was still attached to the hitch. Now that I say robust in the title of my review, you can count on it. I've included a few photos to show the hitch after the break, the trees and the recently installed Reese Towpower Tow and Go Hitch Step. So if you are considering any of these but are unsure, just buy it, you won't be disappointed. PSI tried to upload photos of the damage to the stage and the tree I knocked down with it, but for some reason I don't have that option. If I get help from Revain I might be able to add it later.
