Review on ๐Ÿšฃ Upgraded Wilderness Systems Phase 3 AirPro Kayak Seatback Kit for Enhanced Comfort and Support by Roy Boone

The instructions that came with it are terrible

I just bought a used 2007 Tsunami 145 kayak. The seat was in poor condition. In fact, the seat back and spine were in very bad shape. First I tried to see if I couldn't just buy a whole new seat and replace it entirely. NO! Looks like Wilderness Systems won't sell you the whole place. Replacement parts must be purchased individually. I'm not sure what genius came up with this as a client strategy, but that alone is a huge failure. You need to search and find spare parts wherever you can find them. You can try topkayaker.net. I decided to buy this backrest and spine and really hoped I could make it work. The instructions were a joke. It's hard to tell, but the included photos of the steps were almost invisible. Not much bigger than a postage stamp, dark and grainy. LOW QUALITY! I tried using a magnifying glass app on my phone to understand and decode the photos. I got really excited. Here's what I ended up doing. I was able to match the seat back and splines to the existing underside of the seat. No problem. I've given up the idea of using the cords and bungee that come with it. The seat back tilts back and forth. The seatback also moves up and down. When I'm sitting in the kayak it works great and stays in place while I'm seated. In fact, it might work better without all the complexity that Wilderness put into this seat. The included instructions need to be completely revised by Wilderness with large clear color photos. Wilderness also needs to make some HD videos with step-by-step instructions. Most of their videos look like they were shot in the 80's. In summary, this seatback is likely to fit older Tsunami models. Just be ready to make some changes.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
