When my hard drive died, I was about to buy a new $1400 MacBook Pro. I can't believe this $30 drive worked well! The physical installation was very easy (thanks, ifixit.com!), but to be honest, the next few steps weren't. First, that doesn't mean you can just swap out the hard drive and get started right away. You need to use disk utility in recovery mode to partition the disk and create a subdisk (maybe not the right word) - found out by googling. Then my operating system was completely gone for me and I kept getting the error when trying to boot the operating system via internet recovery. So I had to use another computer to create a bootable flash drive for installation. Another Google session. Anyway, it worked out and it was worth it and I'm very glad I saved all the money!
