This is an amazing garlic cutter. Peel the garlic or several cloves of garlic and throw them into the body of the slicer. Align the top of the slicer with the inner rib and twist the top while gently pressing the top and the paper-thin garlic slices magically fall out of the bottom. When the garlic is completely sliced, remove the top, press the small indentations on the sides of the inner cylinder and it will rise. So, to clean the cutter, all you have to do is pour some soapy water into it. Worst case scenario, you may have to pick out a few garlic chips that didn't come out of the slicer. I've made ginger a few times and it seems to work, but the fibers make it difficult. For ginger, it is better to use a ginger grater.
