Mixed bag but I have some fun low res shots

I got this to keep an eye on wildlife on the edge of my property next to a small forest. Here's the good: - One set of batteries lasted 5 weeks and many thousands of photos - Sensitivity is high. It can catch a deer or a sparrow. - Pretty easy to use but I'm glad I have a manual. - It caught a raccoon, a possum, a lynx and a mountain lion, as well as many deer and birds. Not so good: - Very poor image resolution (see image) - Extremely sensitive to moving foliage, wasting thousands of frames and a lot of time. We have weeds and wind here, and they cannot be avoided. Once he filled up a 32GB card in just a few days. - Battery life would probably be much better if there was a way to reduce daylight sensitivity. If he could largely ignore the green channel, that might help even more. About Permission: Imagine walking into a bar. Prices seem a bit high but they have a 2 for 1 promotion so order. The waiter comes with a bottle of beer and two small glasses, pours beer and waits for payment. That's what we have here with the claim "Captures a crystal clear 16MP still image". The lynx right in front of the camera in daylight looks like it's drawn in color by numbers. I'm pretty sure they just have a low resolution sensor and then split the pixels according to your settings. It's like two beers in 16 glasses. How am I so sure? I took the same shot with all five settings and compared it to a high-resolution shot from a good pocket camera. The image included a test pattern on a piece of printer paper about 15 feet away. Both cameras had roughly the same field of view. To be fair, I scaled down the size of the camera photocopy to roughly the number of megapixels output by each game camera (the aspect ratio varies, so it's hard to be precise here). I then scaled all the images to the same size for comparison. Here's what you can see in the attached image: - This trail camera is on the left, the Sony pocket camera is on the right. - At low resolution (2 MP, top pair) Sony is slightly better. That's a normal compromise. Sony doesn't do motion tracking and doesn't have great battery life. - As the resolution increases, Sony gets better as there is more information to see. - When the claimed resolution increases, Meidase stops showing. - Meidase image is more distorted but not bad. The Meidase image gives an oval shape to a round target. The pixels aren't square, but I think technically they aren't. In this case, Meidase has a better color rendering of a black and white object. It has some strange greens in the pattern, but that can't happen in real wildlife. Look at a 2 megapixel photo of what you are looking for. That can be good, then this camera will probably make you happy. If you need more information, keep shopping.
