This scanner replaces the Canon LIDE 700 which has served me well for many years. Before that I had another Canon for many years. Being familiar with CanoScan I/F and TWAIN I/FI I bought a Canon LIDE 400. I mainly use the scanners for black and white laser copying and PDF creation from paper documents. I just couldn't get the LIDE 400 to copy with its I/F or ScanGear I/F button, so I sent it back. This scanner is fast and produces a clear copy on the printer. I take photos maybe every few years so I won't comment on color quality etc. I don't like the scanner interface or the TWAIN interface nor Canon but it might be familiar. The TWAIN I/F preview/scan image is smaller than what I remember from Canon. This scanner uses a power cord, not USB power, and has an on/off/standby switch. Installation is old school in that you plug in the USB, turn it on, and then install the software. I'm running the latest version of W10, used the CD that came with it and although I didn't get a hardware/new hardware detection notification, once the install was complete it worked. The Multiple PDF feature does not have a Next/End option. Instead, you set a timer to automatically scan the next page. The default is 10 seconds. I found that I could set it to a higher value and then click the PDF button once my next page was in place. The Done button appears while the timer counts down. I did several test scans of color documents, which printed much sharper than my replacement Canon. I created a PDF of a multi-page letter written in blue ink on very thin paper in 1945 and it came out with an acceptable image. The image to be scanned has to be stuck to the glass with this scanner and I had to press down on the cover to smooth out the creases in the letter. I like it. Fast and detailed. Good documentation.
