My 14" x 14" stone chimney has accumulated a significant amount of creosote over the past year. I hired a chimney sweep a year ago and he did his best and cleaned quite a bit but it was very difficult and he couldn't clean everything. I looked at what it could do and decided I didn't think I had enough leftover creosote to start a log fire and I didn't. I've been stoking my wood stove all last winter and have used this stuff a lot. I checked my chimney in the spring, there wasn't much more creosote, but the creosote was a little softer than it was. It was NOT a powder that I could just brush off, but it was softer and less built up than last year. I cleaned my chimney myself this summer with a 14" x 14" wire brush I bought from Revain and managed to get more creosote down, less than last year. My experience is that this stuff works, but it needs to be used consistently to be effective.
