I have looked into diatoms and while not disastrous they look awful in my otherwise lovely betta/shrimp tanks. I just added this today so can't speak to the results but would like to add that the surrounding area is very small (a bit larger than those tiny spherical splatters) so make sure you have a very fine mesh filter bag around it to place. You only need 1/3 cup of Phosgard per 100 gallons of fresh water, so keep that in mind lest you accidentally buy it for two lives like I did.
