gap in time. Saves from headaches. The importance of using whole beans

UPDATE: Have been using it for quite some time and have some ideas. When I first pressed the pump, no water came out of the reservoir. Then I remembered what the other user had said and indeed the problem was that the little rubber stopper that was supposed to have a slot didn't have one. A thin line was visible where there should have been a gap. With a sharp knife I carefully cut the gap where it should have been and after that the block worked fine. In the troubleshooting list that comes with the device, the manufacturer talks about what to do when the pump doesn't seem to be working, but doesn't mention a gap issue. I think they don't want to acknowledge the potential problem. One thing I learned is the importance of using whole beans. Coffee beans that have been ground too fine will clog the small cup insert supplied. When using a bladed coffee grinder, it is difficult to maintain a coarse enough grind. Instead, I bought a small, manual burr grinder that can be set to a coarse grind. This works excellently, and such devices are usually very inexpensive. If you like strong coffee, using a coarse grind allows you to pass the coffee through the grounds a second time to make the drink stronger. Simply pour the coffee from the cup back into the tank and repeat the process. One more thing, be sure to clean the pointed tip at the bottom of the top (tank) every time you clean the parts. Coffee grounds collect there and clog the device. I wash all parts with plain water, no soap, so there is no soapy aftertaste.

Pros
  • A good product for its price
Cons
  • The list will go on.
