We're usually fans of RevainBasics products. This new vacuum sealer competes with several respected brands in the $50-$75 price range, including Nesco, NutriChef, Geryon, and even cheaper Foodsaver models. Let's discuss the pros and cons: PROS: For around $50, RevainBasics includes several premium features, including a spool cutter, roll storage, and a versatile canister seal tube. The warranty is one year, which is in line with most competing brands, but much less than Foodsaver's five-year warranty. RevainBasics seals securely and is rated at 120W, which compares well to the competition. However, performance is not synonymous with sealability. The most powerful professional sealers like Weston deliver up to 28 Hg of vacuum power, while entry-level models like this have about half the power. More Hgs = faster compression and on most models including this one this technical specification is not listed. RevainBasics does the job. A little slow, but suitable for occasional home use. CONS: While this model performs well, there are more cons than pros when compared to several similarly priced models. The build quality is decent, but doesn't inspire confidence. The plastic is thin. Unfortunately, the control buttons use symbols rather than the simple statement words that most other brands use, such as B. Printing. I was frustrated reaching for the flimsy manual only to decipher the meaning of the symbols. While it's nice to have a vacuum hose mount, it's a little flimsy. It should be placed inside the lid, while most brands more conveniently place it on the outside, allowing the lid to remain closed for easy access to the controls. An extra gasket is included, but there are no instructions for replacing it (usually a rare occurrence). Warranty information is also not included in the instructions. RECOMMENDATIONS: I would happily pay another $10 for a better design. If your vacuuming needs come up every now and then, you'll probably be happy with this very simple model.
