Works as it should, but tasks require careful study.

We bought this item to elevate our canoe to the ceiling of our garage. This lift is very competitively priced and we have had great success with Seattle Sports equipment in the past. Installation is easy. The brackets can be installed around a 1.5" joist, although you will need to drill some very straight holes in the joist to hook the bracket hole on the other side. finished ceiling. The instructions could have been more detailed and the photos less dark. The hoist came with some interesting anchor bolts that weren't detailed in the instructions (and weren't needed in our setup). The brake on the front pulley holds the load securely while the cable attaches to the included shackle. Canoe or kayak (as shown in the pictures of the packaging and the instructions). For a lift rated to lift a 100-pound load, these straps are critical, and ours aren't sewn well enough. You are not sewn in the box, you have a row of stitches on a strap that were too close to the raw edge of the strap. The corner was loose so we tugged at it and the strap quickly came loose. In use, the force doesn't come from the same direction as when the webbing was pulled, but with the stitches close to the end, we think fraying was inevitable and with a weight this heavy that's high, the result could have been disastrous. . However, our own reupholstery was a breeze and everyone should take the time to inspect the straps. The webbing quality is the main issue that makes this product a fifth star. We will continue to monitor the pulleys to ensure the rivets that serve as axles are not coming loose from their mounts. We would feel more comfortable with them if they had stronger flanges. Care must be taken to ensure that the rope does not jump off the pulley when the hooks are on the surface. The cable supplied is a single piece that the installer must cut to length. It can also be replaced with a rope of the same size and weave if it is not long enough to reach in this situation. Our lift raises the canoe to over two meters, connects to a three meter high rafter and ties in about two meters from the next roller. If your ceiling is higher, the ends of the rope may be out of reach when the hooks are near the floor. Stop knots are useful to prevent rope ends from slipping over the pulley. Although the instructions do not specifically include this warning, the person must actually cut the rope in two to avoid creating a loop that the child could snag and lift off if the load exceeds it. The tie-down bracket is in line with the rollers so allow for space along the wall towards your keel. To ease the strain, pull the rope down as close to a straight line as possible. The brake, which is a metal hinge that the rope runs through, aligns itself so that the rope can slide through. We didn't feel the boat moving away from us, lifting or lowering; It seems that the brake would work if the rope was suddenly released. Please note that the brake will not work if the hooks are not loaded. Conclusion: This product lifts a canoe and is easy to use. Its safety features are superior to anything you could put together from random parts from your local hardware store, and you couldn't make it cheaper with custom parts. That's a good value, although it ensures thorough control whenever a heavy object is hung.
