Review on Neiko 20743A Digital Adapter Foot Pound by Eric Garron

Works as it's supposed to - 3/4 " model

I'm tired of borrowing a large torque wrench from friends and didn't want to spend a lot of money on something I don't use often. This works for what I need. Remember this is NOT a substitute for a good torque wrench as there are things that many torque wrenches are better at, for example a cam wrench will prevent over tightening, this allows you to easily pull and put down if you're not careful or if the device doesn't warn you. However, it can serve as a good torque wrench if you use it properly and pay attention. As you tighten the fastener you will hear short beeps as you get closer, about 80%. Then a solid beep as you click on the label. So it's like "beep-beep-beep-beep. You need to pull slower because there is no "break" when hitting the target - it is so in a way like a bar wrench. You have to align the display if you want to see it, but that doesn't make much sense as the numbers can still jump around. And there is no backlight. There are 2 red LEDs, one on each side of the case, which will flash along with the beeps. Powered by 2 AA batteries. It works more than a minute, enough time to use it. BUT as I said, you should pay attention to that. There's no indication that it's actually on until it hits that 80% mark, other than the display, which again isn't backlit and not very visible. So it's entirely possible that it shuts down without knowing it and ends up being oversubscribed. What is really needed is a backlight or on/ready indicator. There is also a simple recording function to get the maximum torque. Useful if you want to know, for example, how long it took to remove a bolt.
