This collar is too big for most small and probably many medium sized dogs. he is fat It doesn't. When your dog lies down, the collar will hold its shape and float over his neck like a hula hoop. The collar will not soften or become more flexible with use. I was hoping that *inside* would be mostly comfortable (a rough spot on the inside can't be comfortable), but the outside is downright uncomfortable to the touch. This is a minus if you just like to pet your dog a lot. It doesn't seem to slip in size, but it's hard to adjust and hard to ensure it's adjusted properly. because of that hard tire he has. Also, all the color options are intentionally bland and unassuming unless you want a straight black collar, which I think some dogs would be okay with, but not me. This thing is about 6 weeks old and I'm happy to report that I've just replaced it with something more manageable but still something soft. I think he will be much more comfortable now.
